Purley Counselling Service

PurleyCounsellingService1

The Purley Counselling Service is open, including for new referrals. We are a ministry of Purley Baptist Church and are based at Christ Church, Purley. We offer a caring, professional, confidential counselling service with daytime and evening appointments. Fees are on a sliding scale based on income and circumstances.

A Caring Place

We are a team of Professional Counsellors who offer confidential one to one,  compassionate counselling/psychotherapy for people struggling with life’s issues. This may be anxiety, anger, depression, stress, low mood, panic attacks, relationship problems, bereavement, low self-confidence etc. We work from an easily-accessible location with good transport links and are committed to making counselling more affordable for all with fees based on a sliding scale according to income.

What is Counselling?

There are many definitions of counselling. One simple version is that counselling is a working relationship in which you are helped to explore and manage what is happening in your life. This is a confidential relationship where you are listened to without judgement and offered time, care, support and counsel to help you through to healing and recovery. The overall aim of counselling is to provide an opportunity for you to work towards a more satisfying and resourceful experience of life. Naturally, each person’s needs are different and our counsellors are all trained in Integrative Counselling and can adapt their approach to the individual. Our counsellors have a Christian faith but our counselling is secular in delivery and inclusive of all Faiths (or none), beliefs, gender, or sexual orientation.

FAQs - Your Questions Answered

How long are sessions?

Session are usually 50 minutes long and held weekly at the same time, with the same counsellor. We offer short or longer term counselling depending on what you need.

Does counselling always help?

Most people who seek counselling find it helpful but it is not for everybody. It is important that you find a counsellor you feel comfortable with and that you have the time and mental space to do the work needed to progress.

How is this funded?

We are not part of the NHS and do not receive any funding from the government. Our counsellors offer their services at reduced rates as part of the vision of Purley Baptist Church. We also rely on donations, to enable us to offer this service at subsidised rates. All donations are gratefully received.

How do I book a session?

Please phone, text or email to discuss our services and book an initial session. Every enquiry and booking is handled sensitively and in the strictest of confidence. Call 07513 092476 Email counselling@purleybaptist.org

New to Church?

IMG 3049

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope this helps you to find out everything you want to know about our church.

We are a large and lively church situated close to one of South London's busiest traffic intersections. We cater for all age groups and stages of life with a membership of over 400 people with 600+ people each Sunday across congregations. We are dynamic in our outlook, and bring together people from all walks of life and from different nations. We love to see new people! Services begin with a warm welcome and an invitation to join in celebrating the good news about Jesus Christ. Our worship is vibrant and lively as we lift up His name together. We expect God to meet with us and speak to us. Outside of our services and the activities at church, we are very active in our local community. We work alongside other agencies and run our own projects to express the love of God in a practical way. Our vision statement drives what we do. Purley Baptist Church is committed to bringing God's blessing to our community.

We want to enable people from all backgrounds to become mature followers of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Key information

Finding us

Our address is below and a map of our location is Purley is at contact us.

Banstead Road
Purley
Surrey
CR8 3EA

If driving, parking can get quite chaotic - especially when arriving for the 11.15am service when the 9.30am service may still be emptying! Our Sports Cage immediately before the church has the most parking spaces - turn right soon after turning into Banstead Road. Other possibilies are the main car park for disabled parking (go past the Sports Court and the main church building and turn right into this smaller car park), parking on Banstead Road (including the red line on Sundays) plus other local roads. We recommend arriving 15 mins early to allow time for parking, walk to church and finding your seat.

We are well serviced by many local bus routes going in/out of Purley.

What should I expect when I visit the church?

Expect a very warm welcome particularly from our Host Team who will be able to answer your questions and direct you where to go. There will be approx 30 mins of worship songs, a short time of prayer and an offering collection (please don't feel you have to give). After the notices one of our pastors will give a sermon and there will be a chance to respond/receive prayer at the end of the service.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are served following morning services, and before the evening service. This gives time to meet and catch up with other people.

What do children and young people do?

There are groups for children at both morning services, groups for young people are at the 11.15am service.

Children stay with their parents at the start of the service as we worship together for the first part of the morning. An announcement is made when the children need to go to their groups. You will need to go with your children and register them the first time they attend.
